GALLERY I & II
NWSP12
Rabiya Choudhry
+ Lee O’Connor
16 October – 13 November
Describing herself as a woman,
a daughter, a sister, a lover, a friend, a colleague, a cook,
a listener, a papier-mâché maker,
a Scot, an Asian, an artist, Rabiya Choudhry has produced a new
series of paintings in her own unique style of bizarre portraiture.
In some
cases exposing talking brains, Rabiya aims to stimulate the viewer’s
senses through her confident use of bold colour and imagery.

Is this what Scotland needs, more tartan?
Lee O’Connor works in the manner of a myth-making memoirist,
referencing characters and situations from his past growing up
on the west coast in relation
to his now more urbanised context of Edinburgh. Lee intends to suffocate
the walls of Gallery 2 with large-scale drawings inspired by
the splendour of our
quintessential Scottish flavours, through his use of cheap materials, for
example inferior poster paint and wax crayons, he creates a humble
aesthetic which is
reflected in the images.
PROJECT ROOM
LYNDSAY MANN
'PURE EVIL NEVER REALLY DIES … '
Lyndsay Mann's work for the Project Room stems from rethinking notions of
fear. She attempts to neutralise her childhood horror of Kruger's gloved
hand within the safety of paper/rock/scissors.
